Statement regarding the remarks made by State Minister Mohamed Nihad

The People’s National Congress (PNC) refutes the comments made by the State Minister of Tourism, Mohammed Nihad, during a meeting held at our party headquarters last night.

In his remarks, the State Minister expressed serious concerns regarding reports of planned rallies by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) at resorts in the Malé Atoll, describing such actions as a direct terrorist threat on the tourism sector and the economy at large.

The PNC strongly believes that no responsible political party or civil society organization in the Maldives would engage in activities that undermine the tourism industry or inflict lasting harm on the nation’s economy. We emphasize that all entities must act within the confines of the law, and any actions that breach legal boundaries will undoubtedly be met with appropriate measures by the relevant authorities.

We reaffirm the Government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the Maldives as a safe, secure, and peaceful destination for tourists. Protecting the investments of stakeholders in the tourism sector and ensuring the continuity of the Maldives’ reputation as a world-class destination remain top priorities.

The PNC extends its gratitude to all government institutions, political parties, civil society organizations, and individuals who work diligently to sustain the Maldives as a haven for visitors and investors. We strongly urge everyone to refrain from actions that could jeopardize the nation’s peace, stability, and economic prosperity.

Let us collectively uphold and enhance the Maldives’ global reputation as a leading destination for tourism and investment, ensuring the continued growth and success of this vital sector.
