
President Reaffirms Unwavering Commitment to National Security and Independence

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has addressed the nation on the occasion of the 59th Independence Day of the Maldives. His extensive address focused on the three tenets that needs to be secured in order to fully actualize independence. He said that Maldives needs to strive towards economic development, self determination and defense security.
In his address, the President noted that his administration had prioritized on the economy in the past eight months. He indicated that in the past eight months, the administration had not resorted to printing money to settle public accounts and resorted to diplomacy to negotiate favorable terms for deferring loans taken from China, India and the United Arab Emirates.
He also focused on the several developmental initiatives started in the past months. The President announced, for the first time in the country, bunkering services, an investment bank, a solar city and a financial center.
Speaking on the issue of self-determination, the President stressed that the achievement of an honorable way of life, with the security of housing was paramount. He went on to highlight his plans to achieve this goal.
Speaking on the issue of defense security, the President noted that his administration had prioritized, once again, on diplomacy to address the issue of foreign boots on Maldivian soil. As such, he stressed that all foreign military has been successfully removed from the country. In his address, he also noted that the vast swathes of sea of the Maldives is now under round the clock surveillance using UAV and modern technology. The President added that he prioritized on increasing the capacity and capability of the armed forces.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to not compromising the security and independence of the nation, stressing that it would a red line that would not be crossed.
